Active Digital has donated £50,000 to Support Young People

Active Digital has donated £50,000 to support young people across Kent and London through our digital divide initiative, part of its community funding programme. This wider programme champions digital inclusion, literacy, and accessibility which are key pillars of our social commitment to help every young person thrive in a fast-moving, online world.

Active Digital has worked closely with several outstanding organisations to deliver this support including London Youth, Mid Kent College, Young Lives Foundation, and the Baytree Centre, among others. As part of this programme, we have distributed portable internet access devices and data packages to those who need them most. In doing so, we are helping young people who may otherwise be shut out from the digital world, whether for homework, social connection, or simply staying in touch with their peers.

One of our longest-standing collaborations is with London Youth, a charity dedicated to empowering youth organisations across the capital. Through London Youth’s Digital Talent programme. Portable devices have been handed out to several community organisations supported by London Youth, including Covent Garden Dragon Hall Trust, PPCP, and Highbury Vale Blackstock Trust.

For Mid Kent College, we provided Wi-Fi units to adult students who had no internet access continue their studies from home. This kind of support was especially critical during recent times when remote learning became the norm. By helping to close the connectivity gap, we are ensuring that these students can complete their assignments, revise for exams, and connect with other students, even if their home environment is not ideally equipped.

Why does access to internet connectivity matter so profoundly for young people?

In today’s world, so much of education happens online, from research for school projects to virtual classes, from collaborative platforms to exam revision tools. Without reliable internet, students can fall behind, not only academically but socially. They may be unable to communicate with their peers, to participate in digital extracurriculars, or to stay in touch with the support networks that help them navigate adolescence. For many, staying connected is literally part of staying afloat.

Beyond the immediate educational benefits, our digital divide project promotes digital literacy, encouraging young people not just to consume content, but to create, communicate, and collaborate. By empowering them with tools and connectivity, Active Digital hopes to spark long-term change, we are not just facilitating access, but building a foundation on which young people can grow confidence, resilience, and a sense of belonging.

This initiative is a testament to Active Digital’s commitment to corporate social responsibility. Our community programme is not merely a donation scheme. Rather, it is a reflection of our belief that technology should serve everyone, regardless of their background or circumstances. We want to contribute to a society where no young person is left behind because they lack a device or a data plan.

Moreover, our digital divide work aligns with the broader mission of closing the digital inclusion gap in the UK. According to analysis from the Good Things Foundation and other organisations, millions of people are still affected by digital poverty, lacking access to data, devices, or the skills to navigate the online world. By partnering with charities across Kent and London and deploying our resources where they are needed most, Active Digital is playing our part to address that gap in a meaningful way.

The amount donated is more than a financial gesture, it is a commitment to equality of access, to opportunity, and to social mobility. It is a reaffirmation of our conviction that connectivity empowers young people to learn, to grow, and to stay connected with their communities. As we continue working with our partners, we look forward to seeing how access to the internet will transform young lives, one hotspot, one student, one community at a time.
