ESG Policy

Building a Sustainable Future: Active Digital’s ESG Commitment

At the heart of our business lies a strong belief in doing the right thing, for our customers, our communities, and our planet. As part of our Environmental, Social and Governance (ESG) strategy, Active Digital are committed to being a responsible and sustainable partner for every organisation we work with. From the way we manage waste to how we power our offices, we’re continuously evolving to create positive, measurable impact. The UK generates the second highest amount of e-waste per capita in the world. That’s why we’re committed to making sure at least 95% of our waste is recycled responsibly.

One of the most effective ways we help reduce environmental waste is by encouraging all our customers to trade in and recycle their old tech. Whether it’s smartphones, tablets, laptops or desktop devices, we work hard to make sure that every piece of old equipment is either responsibly recycled or repurposed. Customers can easily trade in any older/unwanted mobile devices to top up a tech fund with us. We’ll even take them off customers’ hands if they’re damaged and/or not working, so no need to worry if they’re not in the best condition. And with our zero-landfill plan, you can rest assured that the majority of phones will be reused, repaired or recycled for parts. This process not only helps prevent electronic waste from ending up in landfill but also supports the circular economy, ensuring valuable materials are reused and reducing the demand for new resource extraction. In many cases, trade-in programmes offer value back to customers too, making sustainability a financially sound decision.

But our environmental mission doesn’t end there. Internally, we operate paperless offices, minimising the use of printed documents and embracing digital workflows that reduce waste and energy consumption. This isn’t just a symbolic gesture, it’s a core part of our operational mindset. Every time we choose digital over print, we lower our carbon footprint and increase our efficiency. Our team is trained and encouraged to work in ways that prioritise sustainability at every level, from the smallest admin task to large-scale strategic decisions. Furthermore, we have worked hard to reduce unnecessary office space, presumably to reduce energy consumption and emissions from heating and lighting.

We consider transport emissions and encourage car sharing collaborations among team members. Where possible, employees are supported in using public transport, cycling, or remote working to further reduce travel-related emissions. We understand that commuting is a significant contributor to a business’s environmental impact, and we’re proud to be taking steps to address that head-on.

Powering Change

Sustainable Energy at Our Kent HQ

At our Kent headquarters, we’ve taken sustainability a step further by investing in solar panels to generate clean, renewable energy. This system powers a significant proportion of our day-to-day operations and reduces our reliance on non-renewable energy sources. Not only does this help reduce our operational carbon emissions, but it also serves as a visible commitment to sustainability that our employees and customers can take pride in. Our offices are a living example of what a low-impact, energy-conscious workplace can look like.

All these actions, while important on their own, are all part of a wider vision to be a truly ethical and sustainable partner. We believe that businesses have a responsibility to lead by example—not just in what they sell, but in how they operate. That’s why our ESG policy doesn’t sit on a shelf. It’s woven into every part of our decision-making, from supplier selection and customer engagement to staff development and environmental reporting.

“Powered by Tech” programme

More sharing. Less Inequality

As part of a programme over the last 12 months, we have spent time helping digitally excluded young people by giving them free access to connectivity. Paving the way for opportunities and experiences they otherwise wouldn’t have had. As part of this programme, we strive to end technology poverty and ensure children who are without the relevant technology in an ever increasingly virtual world, do have access to the equipment needed.

Active Digital associate director, Alex Patterson, who delivered some of the mi-fi units commented, “It has been so rewarding to partner with organisations to deliver our powered by tech programme to the young people in their community. In a world where we still see so many young people not having access to technology, we can use our programme to improve people’s lives and create a thriving society, keeping people connected. This ongoing programme helps to bridge the digital gap and help the 1.5 million UK homes with no internet access.”
