End of Year O2 4G Network Updates

Christmas is almost upon us and the mobile networks are working hard to ensure they are maintaining efficient and fast networks for the UK population at this busy time of the year.

O2 are continuing to invest in upgrading their 2G and 3G networks, as well as bringing 4G to even more places. This is all part of a five-year £3bn plus network modernisation programme. In fact, O2 are continuing this project until 98% of the UK population can get O2 calls, texts and 4G data, both indoors and out. O2 are the only UK mobile network to make this commitment to Ofcom.

Two masts are better than one

In 2013, O2 started working with Vodafone as part of a mast sharing strategy. As O2 and Vodafone have been around the longest, it makes sense that O2 share some of Vodafone’s masts and vice versa. This helps customers to give better coverage across the UK. Proof that sometimes it’s better to share.

What’s New?

The O2 4G network continues to grow in both urban and rural locations and is available to O2 customers in over 16,000 towns, cities and villages across the UK. Their latest coverage stands at 97.4% indoor population - that’s approaching 99% outdoor population coverage.
